The KC has stated it will fund specific projects, such as BOAS and IVDD. Jane Ladlow does have funding from the KC to support her BOAS research, and the Vet School also has some limited funds for the KC/KCCT to support the IVDD research, with which we are involved. However none of these funds are available to support members of the Genetics Centre.

SEIB (South Essex Insurance brokers) used to ask for a £1 donation for the AHT with every insurance policy. Would it not be possible for the KC to do the same so that long term it would provide the stability but through specific donations?
We think this is great idea and is exactly the sort of funding we could benefit from. However this decision would lie with the KC.
Would it not be simplest to apply a £1 levy to each dog registration? I do not believe this would stop anyone from registering their puppies.

Can you offer any explanation as to why The KC didn’t collaborate on genetic testing and choose to go overseas? Would this have increased revenue?
Unfortunately we were not part of the discussions surrounding the KC’s decision to use an overseas provider for their DNA testing service. But yes, a collaboration of this nature could have, potentially, generated revenue to support the Genetics Centre
Also breed clubs could be asked to have, e.g., £150 per year to support the program. Relying on donations is not really sustainable for a long term business.
We also like this idea, but its implementation would rest with the KC.
Surelly the KC can add a small sum per registration to meet the shortfall, and can move that forward as defined funding model for Canine research. I am sure most, if not all, breed clubs would support this. The KC can make this secured income stream.
