Members of the Canine Genetics Centre team have attended Crufts, the World’s greatest dog show, for as long as any of us can remember. Crufts has always been a great opportunity for us to meet up with breeders, owners and Breed Club representatives with whom we have been working closely, to update them on their various research projects and to discuss new potential areas of research. And customers of our DNA testing service, Canine Genetics Testing (CAGT), have also been able to purchase DNA tests at Crufts, typically at a special discounted rate.
This year, however, will be a bit different. The CGC has been very open about its funding situation, and grass roots stake holders have stepped up magnificently, enabling us to maintain our full and varied programme of research. But having a stand at Crufts costs us thousands of pounds each year, and we don’t unfortunately sell enough DNA tests at the event to cover our costs. And we don’t think that using donations to attend Crufts is appropriate, because the motivation for most of our donors is to support our research.
So it is with considerable sadness that we have decided not to attend Crufts in 2025. Instead, CAGT will passing our savings onto our customers, by offering a special Crufts discount of 25% that will be available on all qualifying tests, from 1st February through to the end of Crufts 2025 (midnight on Sunday 9th March 2025) – use code CRUFTS25 at checkout.
