The Canine Genetic Centre investigates reports of sudden death in young Labradors

Geneticists from the Canine Genetics Centre, along with veterinary cardiologists and neurologists from the Queen’s Veterinary School Hospital, are becoming increasingly concerned by reports of sudden, unexpected deaths in young Labrador Retrievers – often occurring during rest or sleep – in dogs that appeared otherwise healthy.

Since becoming aware of this emerging inherited disorder, the multidisciplinary team, which is based in the Department of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Cambridge, has mobilised its experts to investigate this distressing condition as a matter of utmost priority.

To succeed the research will require funding. One of the best ways to support the Canine Genetics Centre, including helping to fund our investigations into sudden death in young Labradors, is to become a Friend of the Canine Genetics Centre. This is our regular giving scheme that we set up to help our supporters spread their donations over the course of a year, and to enable us to claim gift aid if eligible.
