Earlier this week, Dr. Cathryn Mellersh gave an online presentation where she highlighted a few of the significant milestones the Canine Genetics Centre has reached, and shared an important message about the future. We hope you joined us but if not, you can watch the presentation below and read more about what we are aiming to achieve.
Background
Since January 2024 the Canine Genetics Centre (CGC) team has been working very hard to secure funding that will ensure the long-term future of the CGC.
Support for the CGC has been overwhelming and donations from clubs, societies, organisations and individuals have enabled the CGC to not only keep running over the last 18 months but also maintain its ambitious programme of research.
Since January 2024 the CGC has secured several grants that have improved our funding situation considerably, and we have also continued to grow our Canine Genetic testing service (www.CAGT.co.uk) which makes a consistent contribution to the costs of running the CGC.
In fact we are tantalisingly close to securing the whole Canine Genetics Centre for the next three years, until 2028, and safeguarding the future of our core team along with our precious DNA samples collection for the foreseeable future.
This would be truly transformative for the Genetics Centre.
Can you help us cross this line?
Friends of the Canine Genetics Centre regular giving scheme
To help our supporters spread their donations over the course of a year, we set up The Friends of the Canine Genetics Centre regular giving scheme. Donations made through this scheme are eligible for Gift aid, and their regularity really helps us estimate our income over a twelve-month period and plan our future research projects accordingly.
If we can increase our number of Friends to 1000:
- The whole of the CGC will be secure for at least the next three years, until 2028
- Our core team and our core resources (including our precious DNA sample collection) will be secure for the FORESEEABLE FUTURE.
If you are already a Friend of the CGC – thank you. Thank you for your confidence in us and your continued support. Perhaps you could share this message with your own friends and persuade other people to become a Friend? That would be amazing.
If you are not yet a Friend of the CGC could you become one? It will only cost £5 a month, not much more than a bag of dog treats, and you will be making a genuinely meaningful difference to the long-term future of the Canine Genetics Centre.
The process is very simple, and you can of course cancel your direct debit at any time.
Do it for your dogs
Dogs of all breeds need the Canine Genetics Centre, to help investigate not only inherited conditions that we know about already, such as intervertebral disc disease and glaucoma, but new and emerging diseases that will inevitably arise in the future.
So if you can – please become one of the 1000 Friends of the Canine Genetics Centre that we need to get across this very important line and ensure the future of the CGC.
Don’t do it for us – do it for your dogs
