Meet the Beagles!

Hundreds of Beagles and their owners came together on Sunday 7th July at scenic Sysonby Acres, just outside Melton Mowbray, to enjoy a day of Beagle-related events, activities and stalls. The occasion was Beagle Welfare’s 45th Anniversary Fun Day and CGC keenly accepted an invitation to attend.

Not only was it a great opportunity to watch and participate in Beagle races and dog shows (prizes were awarded for the most gorgeous girl, handsome boy, golden oldie and several more categories), but the event also had a more serious side, with experts on hand to give owners advice on keeping their Beagles healthy and happy.

CGC’s Sally Ricketts and Jim Johnson set up alongside Samantha Goldberg, Veterinary Surgeon and Breed Health Coordinator. While Sam recorded dog weights and heights for a Beagle health survey, Sally and Jim gave out information about CGC’s idiopathic epilepsy research and recruited some willing participants.

In between races, shows, the occasional downpour, and a minor panic when one Beagle decided that the donation bucket would be the perfect place to pee, Sam and Joan Lennard, Chairman of the Beagle Association, presented CGC with a cheque for £300! This very generous donation was raised by all those who kindly took part in Beagle Welfare’s raffle. CGC would like to thank everyone at Beagle Welfare and its supporters for this amazing donation and for hosting such a fun and informative event.
